Michael C. Lasky is a partner at the New York City law firm of Davis & Gilbert LLP. Mr. Lasky is founder and chair of the Public Relations Law Practice Group, the only law firm in the country with a dedicated practice group to meet the specific legal needs of public relations and marketing communications firms.

Mr. Lasky counsels many of the fastest growing and most prominent independent and publically held public relations firms.  He assists U.S.-based subsidiaries of international companies comply with employment, intellectual property and new media laws in the United States. He is also co-chair of Davis & Gilbert’s Litigation Practice Group, where he devotes a significant portion of his practice to advising executives and owners of service sector companies on their employment, shareholder and incentive compensation arrangements and disputes.

A noted authority in the areas of restrictive covenants and the movement of talent between competitive organizations, Mr. Lasky co-authored “Employment Restrictive Covenants and Other Post-Employment Restrictions” in the highly-acclaimed treatise Commercial Litigation in New York Courts, now in its fourth edition.  In 1991, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York appointed Mr. Lasky to serve as pro bono mediator. He continues to serve in this capacity under the auspices of the court, and has mediated over 200 cases. In 2013, Mr. Lasky was awarded The Boris Kostelanetz President’s Medal “in recognition of his extraordinary record of dedication and distinguished service to the legal profession.”

Mr. Lasky was instrumental in the formation of the PR Council in 1988 (then known as The Council of PR Firms) and has served as its legal counsel ever since.   He is frequently called upon to address and collaborate with other leading industry trade associations, including the Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America, The Arthur Page Society and The American Marketing Association.  He also writes extensively about trends and legal issues affecting the communications industry.

Mr. Lasky is an honors graduate of Rutgers College and Rutgers University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of Rutgers University Law Review.  He is a member of the Law School’s Alumni Board of Trustees, the Dean’s Advisory Council. He also serves on boards of a host of other professional, educational and charitable organizations, including Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the leading legal aid and education organization dedicated to New York artists, and cultural institutions.
