Montieth M. Illingworth is CEO and Global Managing Partner of Montieth & Company. His career creating and executing communications strategies and programs to achieve high-value outcomes is extensive and accomplished. He has advised clients on a wide variety of special situations and issues, including global market expansions, new product launches, rebrandings, corporate contests, restructurings, bankruptcies, M&A, corporate governance, litigation and regulatory investigations. He counsels CEOs, CFOs, CMOs and Generals Counsel and publishes a wide variety of thought leadership on communications. Montieth has spoken at a variety of global PR industry conferences on the emerging complexities of issues and crisis management.

Montieth works closely with the firm’s team of global Directors on its many cross-border engagements that span practice groups. He architected the firm’s global offering and expansion and drives the launch of new products and services. 

Montieth began his professional life as a journalist writing and photographing the civil war in Rhodesia (today Zimbabwe) while still a college student. He went on to work as a journalist for a variety of national magazines and newspapers, and as a screenwriter and author. His biography of boxer Mike Tyson, “Mike Tyson: Money, Myth and Betrayal” was published in 1991 and became the definitive account of the former heavyweight champion’s early life and career.   

Montieth started his communications career with Development Counsellors International in New York, NY in 1995 where he advised governments in the U.S. and around the world on investment attraction marketing and media relations. His work since then is a record of entrepreneurial initiative to design and build specialized practices, and solutions, for his clients. In 1998, Montieth founded the eBusiness practice at TSI Communications, a leading technology PR firm. He then created the Global Corporate Strategies Group in 2001 at Ruder Finn that focused on advising companies expanding around the world. 

Prior to starting his own firm, Montieth was Head of Office, New York, for Gavin Anderson & Co., a global corporate and financial communications and public affairs consultancy owned by Omnicom. He led a restructuring of the office which included strengthening its M&A, financial communications and crisis management capabilities and making key senior hires.
